I am a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker with extensive experience with CBT, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Ericksonian Psychotherapy, and Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP). While I have a general practice, I also specialize in trauma treatment that is comfortable, effective, and brief.
I have worked at virtually all levels of care in mental health, including in-patient, partial hospitalization, and outpatient services. The last job I had prior to beginning full-time private practice was as the Director of Mental Health at Noyes Memorial Hospital. Additionally, I dropped down to half-time in my practice for a couple of years to act as Clinical Director of the Research and Recognition Project as we ran clinical trials of the Reconsolidation of Traumatic Memories protocol (RTM or Movie Theater Technique) with veterans.
A lot of really skilled clinicians avoid or refer out potentially rewarding clients because they are concerned or uncomfortable with the thought of clients who have experienced a lot of trauma getting triggered and emotionally falling apart in session. And that is a genuine concern because at some point in your career, it will happen. But with a little practice and knowledge, you can learn to handle these situations quite easily as long as you’re willing to do some practice and look at things a little differently.
